About David H McTaggart
David H McTaggart was born and lives in central Scotland just outside Glasgow. He left school at sixteen with barely any qualifications, and started his working career in a bakery, which lasted two days.
He then spent a few months in panel shop in a garage, and struggled to find any meaningful work until he turned twenty-one, when he put himself through his LGV driving test and became qualified as a truck driver.
After a few years driving, working in various industries, he went to college for a few years. On leaving college he worked in a mobile phone manufacturing plant, before being made redundant when the plant closed. Then he returned to driving trucks, which he still does to this day.
David has always had a passion for fantasy and Sci Fi, that started early in his life when watching ‘Star Trek,’ a weekly highlight and still follows the new incarnations of the franchise to this day.
Authors that he has followed and taken inspiration from over the years are J.R.R. Tolkien, Raymond E Feist, David Gemmel, Douglas Adams, Stephen Erikson and Iain C Esslemont, Steven Aryan, among many others, too many to mention.
David has come late to writing only having started writing his first the book in his fifties. He started writing ‘Aspects of the Gods’, while still working full-time at his day job.
One of the key scenes from the book came to him while out driving and when he returned home, he quickly noted down his ideas.
The book grew from that small seed of inspiration. Between family life and work commitments the venture has taken some time but has been a labour of love and determination.
The story is long, but a standalone book, and David is currently working on book two, set in the same world, with some of the same characters and follows on directly after the events of book one.
Though still working full time as a truck driver, the experience and pleasure he has gained from writing, has made David wish he started writing earlier.
He hopes one day, in the near future to reduce his hours to spend more time writing, delving and exploring the world he has created.
From David
Writing is a lonely process; you are locked away in your mind trying to plot out the story and keep the chronology of the story intact. You may find yourself under the stairs, in the attic, (as in my case,) in a living room or cafe, even so, you are alone. To combat this many, have strategies to survive the stillness. In my case I turned to music, in many cases old favourites, and others newfound favourites.
This book would not be what it is without the music that kept me sane offering company, solace and sanctuary in the long hours writing and editing, so a big thanks to some of the artists I listened to via YouTube during this endeavour.
Leah McHenry; All Them Witches; King Buffalo; Ozric Tentacles; Carbon Based Lifeforms; Heilung; Wardruna; Ivan Torrent; S1gns of L1fe; Pulse Mandala; Stone Rebel; Martin Stürtzer. To list a few of many.
